The armed men who stormed the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School, Ikorodu, Lagos State, and took away three female students have demanded for a ransom of N60 million for each of the girls.
They later reduced it to N20 million for each of the girls.
A parent of one of the girls, who preferred anonymity, said yesterday that the abductors had gotten in touch to make their demands known
The incident has disrupted academic activities in the school, as parents and teachers were offering prayers for the safe return of the girls.
It was gathered, that one of the kidnapped students, Olusa Timilehin, is the daughter to one of the directors of Lagos State Anglican School Management Board.
Also, the House of Representatives yesterday mandated the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to intensify efforts to free the girls, even as the state’s deputy governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule in company of other top government officials visited the school.
Adebule reinstated government’s resolve at ensuring the safe return of the abducted girls.
She said: “The incident is quite unfortunate and unwarranted and we are concerned. We will do everything possible to rescue the girls and reunite them with their parents, as the commissioner for education, I am in the school to have the first-hand information with the management.
“We have also visited the spot where the girls were kidnapped and have started investigations. The police and other security agencies will do everything possible to rescue the girls unhurt.”
